RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before W. H. Eevell, Esq., R.M.) Monday, Septejtbeb 16.
Dbunkenness — William Christian, Bobert Robinson, William Harkinson, and Robert Coclirane, for this offence were severally fined ss, or be imprisoned ,"-»r twenty-four hours in default of payment.
Indecency— John Ashtonwas fined L 2 or four days imprisonment. Labceny — William Harkinson was charged with stealing a gold ring, the property of Elizabeth Cowan. At the request of the police the prisoner was discharged. Bheach of Police Obdinance — John Hanham was fined LI and costs for being the owner of an unregistered dog. Assault. — Fanny Moore was charged with assaulting Hannah Pickles on the sixth instant. Mr Rees appeared for the defendant. The defendant did not deny having struck the complainant. It appeared that a dispute arose between them, when some rather strong language was made use on both sides, which resulted in the defendant striking the complainant on the mouth. The complainant retaliated by empty a bucket of "slops" over the defendant, His Worship fined the defendant in the sum of L 2 with costs.
Lunacy. — Richard Jones, committed to the Lunatic Asylum by the Greymouth Bench on the sth ult., was to-day discharged on the evidence of Dr Ryley. The Court was then adjourned till Eleven o'clock next day.
