The amount of import duty collected at the Custom House to-day was LlO3 18s id. The following list, of merchandise cleared shows its ilixfcribiitioii :—: —

VICTORIA.

The "Mebourne Argus" of the 12th reports : —

In the import markets to-day little of special consequence has transpired, the mail's letters not having been delivered till after business hourd. Though the shipments of cement are heavy, fully one-haif of the quantity advised is coming to one firm, and the price, therefox'e, is steady at last week's rates. We hear of a shipment of Portland, ex George Thompson, of 500 barrels, as well as a parcel to arrive, having changed hands at uj> to 19s. The balance' of the American plaster, 200 barrels, withdrawn last week from auction, has been placed privately afc close on the rates then realised — 37s to 38s. A considerable decline on prepared opium is expected, owing to large supplies having come forward ; the vuluu at present, however, is too unsettled to cnablo a reliable quotation to be given. Sales of currants are reported at 3Jd. Cheese has been sold afc Is 3d, but the decrease in shipments is expected to cause a rise in price. A parcel of eighty boxes of good teas has been placed afc somewhat under our quotation of Is 2d. In breadstuffs we hear of some fifty tons of best Adelaide flour having been disposed of for export at Ll3 ss, in bond. Maize is firmer, and prices advancing ; 3s 4£d to 3s 5d was asked to-day. The clearances of gold effected at the Customs during the week amounted to 35,7740z5. The total quantity exported since tho beginning of the year has been 1,083,8670z5, of which 153,2880z3 were transhipments from Neiv Zealand. The total exports during the corresponding period of last year amounted to 1,123,5040z5, of which 205,3110zs were the produce of New Zealand goldfields.
