The plant is" aH in perfect order, and consist of a new 20-horse power horizontal engine, with multitubular boiler, the poppett heads, pumps, self-feeder, sluice boxes, connections, and all the -works are in perfect order, and could be imnvediately set in action. The shaft is 151 feet down, and drives have been commenced. The office, engine house, blacksmith's shop, boiler house, and store room, and all tools necessary for properly carrying on the mine are on the ground. Additional winding gear, trucks, cages, flat sheets, ropes, and tackle of all necessary descriptions have lately been received from Melbourne. The reason for offering this very eligible property is the inabuity of the shareholders to provide funds for carrying on the works to a successful issue. No reasonable doubt can be entertained of the richness of the ground, as the claim is almost surrounded by good paying claims, some of which have proved five payable bottoms. PETERSEN AND CO., WATCHMAKERS, JEWELLERS, AND SILVERSMITHS, CHHISTCHUBCH, BEG to inform their customers on this side of the Province and the public of Hokitika that, in consequence of the increased tariff on Jewellery and Silver Plate, they are now employing the most skilled workmen in the manufacture of the same on the premises, in which they have succeeded .beyond their expectation. The following is an extract from the " Lyttelton Times," June 13th last:— " Local Industry.— We have been favored by Mr Petersen, of High street, with a view of two elegant cups recently manufactured by him. The first is a racing cup of sterling silver, alternately bright and frosted. The design is that of two horses leisurely standing under the shade of a large New Zealand tree-fern. On the summit of this fern rests the bowl, the surface of which is relieved by au elegant design of floral chasing. The attitude of the animals is easy and life-like, and they are excellently moulded. Around the tree is twisted a plant of ivy. The different colors of the material employed add to the general effect of the whole. The cup is twelve inches in height, the value being L 25. The second cup is intended for an agricultural prize, and consists of a plinth of burnished and dead silver, from which springs a slender stem of wheat, upon which the bowl rests. The base consists of two rams' heads, boldly cast in silver. The value of this cup is L 6. Altogether the' manufacture of these articles reflects great credit on Mr Petersen, who has evidently spared no pains or trouble to produce them, and they will challenge competition, both in excellence and price, with any imported from Europe. Besides, the heavy duty on imported silver is avoided. The cups are mounted on stands of JN'ew Zealand wood, ebonized, made by Mr Gardiner, of Hereford street. Some choice specimens of bijouterie, made of Westland gold, were also shown to us by Mr Petersen." Our Mr Cohn will, on Tuesday, 13th August, visit Htikitika, for the purpose of displaying a few samples of our manufacture of Silver Plate, together with choice samples of other Jewellery, at the Empire Hotel for a few days, and any orders he may be favored with will receive our strict attention.
