The Government are considering the advisability of constructing a line of telegraph to the lighthouse at Cape St. George. Mr Samuels to-day, iv the Assembly, accused the Treasurer of falsifying the public accounts; Mr Eagar ' admitted having erroneously credited the receipts with L2u0,000, without also showing a liability on the other side. The houso is now debating the Sydney water-supply question. The markets are quiet. Wednesday, July 17. The University boat race takes place to-morrow. Green and Hickey row their match on the 24th of August, on Parramatta River, if Green beats Hickey, he intends challenging Kelly, the champion of England. A paper has been laid before $io Assembly, containing copies of two letters from Mr Ver .on, which sustain Mr Parkes' statement on the postal arrangments. The House is now discussing Father Dillon's disrnis>al. The debate is Whrm. The Government will lay the papers on the subject before the House. A new Land Bill is to be introduced i before ihe Estimates. A telegraph line is about to bo constructed to Port Macquarrie. Flour is very linn. Wheat is quiet. Coffee is higher. At auction the Herman Doctor's cargo of sugar, about 200 tons, was sold at a slight reduction on recent sales. Thursday, July 18. In the Legislative Assembly last night the debate on the Government interference with the Catholic orphan schools lasted five hours, and caused much acrimonious feeling. The Ministry consented to lay the papers before the House. In the Assembly to-day the Colonial Secretary, in reply to an hon. member) stated that the Governor had exercised his right of using the Royal prerogative in the caso of Connor, nfter the Executive had decided on the convict's execution. Mr Ftfrkes moved the second reading of the Federal Counoil Bill. He stated that the council intended only to act on the postal arrangement question. Mr Goddard, engraver, T J itt street, was accidentally pois >ned to-day, through a mistake made bj' a chemist in making up a prescription. The wool sales were brisker, and the following prices were realised:— Greasy, 6d106.£1; fleece, 13Ad to 15? d; lambs' 14d ; sheepskins. 4.U1 to 7^d. Flour is 10s higher than the last quotations. Sales oi' Adelaide what are reported at 5s 6d. Bulk stout is lower, and sales of best brands have ..aken piacp at L 5 to L 5 10*.
