Bathuhst, December 18. A deputation, consisting of Messrs J. N. M'lntosJi, S. llobinson, C. Hughes, R. Kenna, J. Ford, R. M'Phillamy, J. Fitzpatrick, J. Cassidy, and T. Wilton, waited upon Mr W. 11. Suttor, at his residence, Brucedale, this afternoon, when he consented to be nominated as a candidate .for the electorate of Bathurst. His election is considered certain. Mr George Thornton is in the field, but popular feeling is in favor of a local representative. The writ {or the election, which is dated on the 14th, did not arrive until to-day 5 and bat for a hurried telegram to the Returning' Officer, which preceded it by a few hours, the electors were in total ignorance of the dato when the writ is made returnable. The nomination takes place on Friday, and the election ou Saturday. Hay, December 19. An influential meeting was held at the Court House here to-day, to raise subscriptions throughout this district for the benefit of the widow and children of- the late Mr Commissioner Grenfell, who lost his life in defending the mail; and it was also proposed to memorialise the Government in their behalf. A list was opened, and a goodly sum was subscribed in the room.
