RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT
(Before G. G. FitzGerald, Esq., R.M.) Wednesday, November 21. Drunkenness. — James Penny, John Ryan, David Thomas, William Steel, and j Joseph Cumming, were respectively fined 5s for this.offence ; in default of payment, 24 hours' imprisonment. Larceny. — Jaa. Randwick was charged with larceny of L5O, and on the application of Inspector Broham he was remanded till tho 24th inst. His Worship intimated that he would admit the prisoner to bail, hiin&elf in L5O, and two sureties of L 25 each. Forgery.— Joseph Evan Whidby, a colored man, was then charged, for that he did, at a date and place unknown, feloniouely forge the name of oue Daniel Henderson to an acceptance given by the said Joseph Evan Whidby to Messrs Anderson and Wright, of the Carron, Melbourne, Victoria. On the application of Inspector Broham he was remanded for eight days. Lunacy. — Mary Jane Smith was charged with being of unsound mind, but on the evidence of Dr Ryley was discharged. CIVII, CASES. In the adjourned case of Strelitz and Hardy (the trustees in Mr Rosenberg's estate) v. M'Laren and wife, his Worship gave judgment for the plaintiffs for amount claimed, and costs.
Jones v. Ryley. — This was an action for damages done to the plaintiff's property, by the act of the defendant, a miner. Plaintiff in person, and Mr Button for defendant. After hearing the evidence, his Worship gave judgment for plaintiff for the amount claimed and costs ; at the same time remarking that the defendant might consider himself very fortunate in not being committed for wilful and corrupt perjury.
Pierce v. Pennefather.— Judgment for plaintiff for amount claimed and costs.
There was no appearance of plaintiffs or defendants in the cases Dutton and Dunn v. Brown, Kirwan v. Drummond and M'Cann.
The Court was then adjourned till 1 1 a.m. to-morrow (this day).
