GENTLEMEN,— At the urgent request of a large and influential number of my fellow-citizens, I am induced to come forward as a candidate for the honor of representing Hokitika in the Provincial Council. The exceedingly short time which remains before the day of Election will, I regret to say, prevent me from meeling you, as I should have wished, for the purpose of explaining my views on questions likely to come before the Council. My interests, however, are so thoroughly identified with your own, and I have been so long resident amongst you, being, I believe, one of the first o settle here, that perhaps you will give me credit for my sincerity in promising to advocate the claims of Hokitika and of Westland to tho utmost of my power, should you think fit to elect me. A LL parties whose names are on the Electoral Roll, or who have been for six months in possession of a Business License are entitled to vote for members for the Provincial Council.
