The P.N.Z. and A.R.M. Co.'s b.s. Airedale, W. 11. Meikleham, commander, left Manukau on the 18th instant, and arrived at Taranaki the following day, where she discharged 78 tons of cargo, and sailed again the same afternoon for Nelson ; reached that port at daylight on the 20th, and same day transhipped forty-one passengers into the s.s. Lord Ashley, for the West. Coast, and twenty-three into the Rangitoto, for Southern ports ; remained at Nelson for five days, and sailed for Hokitika at 10 p m. on the 25th, and brought up in the roadstead at 3 a.m. on the 27th, The Airedale brings thirty-three passengers, but no cargo. She saileJ for Sydney thy same night.

The fore-and-aft schooner Emma "Eliza •ailed from Nelson on the 18th instant, bound hither. Experienced strong head winds to the Buller, which port blie breasted on the 24th, when the breeze fell light and veered to tho northward, carrying her to the Grey roadstead by next day at noon ; lay there until the 27th, waiting for orders, and then tripped her anchor and sailed for Hokitika, reaching the roadstead that night, and next day was towed iubide by the Challenge. She brings a cargo of potato* and carrots.

The p.s. Yanu conveyed passengers and 4000 ounces of gold, shipped by the Bank of New Zealand, on board the Airedale, at 11 p.m. on Saturday, and then accompanied tnat steamer to the Grej', where she arrived at 3 a.m. yesterday ; transhipped cargo and passengers out of the Airedale, and ran in to the river at 11 a.m., and after discharging her load she took on board SOOOozs of gold (Bank of New South Wales) and a few passengers, which she transferred to the Airedale, and then attained for Hokitika. On arriving in roadstea ' she found the Albion, s.s., waiting to be tendered, so at once ran alongside of her, and received on board between seventy and eighty passengers, and the English mail, with which she made for the river, reaching the transit shod at 3.30 p.m. The Yarra reports the Grey bar io be in excellent condition, as the channel runs straight out, and when she sounded it contained two fathoms and a half of water. The surf was unusually light, so much so that several open Hailingboals, laden with passengers and goods for the Pakihi, crossed the bar under canvas yesterday. The ketch Jane Elkin, coal laden, bound to this port, also seized the advantage thus offored to save towing expenses. Thw arrival of the stneral large ocean steamers, which graced the roadstead on Saturday and yesterduj, was timed most favorably, so far as the stale of the weather and condition of the bar was concerned, an excellent opportunity being : Horded for the transhipment and landing of passengers and cargo. On Saturday the strainers Alexandra, Claud Hamilton, a^id Airedale, were promptly despatched to their tevenil destinations, the former leaving for Melbourne, the Cliuul for Nelson, and the latter for Sydney. Yesterday the Phoebe and Albion arrived, and were duly attended to by the Yarra, and as indications of a continuance of the favorable weather which marked je&terday were not wanting last night, we may confidently ns*ert that both vessels will leave to-day, according to their udvertised time of sailing. The Yarra reported two fathoms and a half of water on the bar yesterday, with a sea so smooth that a waterman's wherry might have ventured iuto the roadstead with perfect tifety.

The clipper schooner Dancing Wave, once a regular visitor to this port, but -which, during the hat nine mouths, has been trading elsewhere, arrived in the river on the 27th instant. She left Melbourne on the 15th inbtaut, -with light N.E «im!i and fine weather, and passed through Port Phillip Heads at noon the same day. Light variable weather detained her in the Straits until the 18th, when she took her last departure, Swan Island bearing W.S.W., distant fifteen miles. Experienced northerly weather during the run across, never once getting her starboard tack 6 on board. On the 23rd it came on very thick, and for threo dayß no sights could be taken. Made the land ou the 25th, a, littlo

north of Greymouth, and anchored oil' Hokitikn at 4 p.m. the same day. She brings a full general cargo. Passenger List Per s.s. Edward Kidney, commander, lefc Port Phillip Heads at 4.15 p.m. on the 12th instant, arrived at Bliilf Harbor on the 17th, having experienced during the voyage maderute S .W. winds, v itli very light cross sea; left again at 4.30 p.m , and had fresh N.W. winds until arrival at Otago Heads at 12 a.m. on the 11th ; Captain" Kidney then hove-to until daylight, and anchored at Port Chalmers at 4.15 a.m. ; left at 6 p.m. on the 20th, had light variable winds until arrival at Lyttelton, at noon on the 21st ; left at 4.30 p.m. on the 22nd, and arrived at Wellington on the 23rd. having cxprienced, for the first part, light N.E., and afterwards strong N.W. winds; left at 1.35 p.m. 21th, met with a heavy gnle from the N.W., with very thick weather, owing to which brought up at 6.30 in Guard's Bay ; weather moderating left agaiu at 4,50 a.m. on the 25th. passed through French Pa?s at 6,15 a.m., and arrived at Nelson at 9.10 same morning ; left sit 11.15 p.m. on the 26th, and arrived oif Hokitika at 10.45. p.m. on the 27th.

The cutter Lapwing left Hokitika on the 6th instant, and made the passage via Fovoaux Straits. On the 11th instant she passed the small Solander Island quite close ; but observed no signs of any signals on shore, as reported by Captain Milne, of the Elfin. On the same day, two steamers passed to the westward, supposed to be the William Miskin and Keera. — ' Otago Daily Times."

A sad and fatal shipwreck occurred at the Leven Heads on Sunday last, the 7th insfc., of which the following are the particulars : — '• The cutter Keera, which left Launceston last week, arrived at the mouth of the Leven on Sunday afternoon, and the tide being out, she anchored outside, the sea at the time being calm. Between eight and nine p.m., however, it blew hard from the eastward and it is thought either that, she dragged her anchor, or that tho*e on board, after getting up the anchor, could not manage her. Some think they were asleep, but of course all is mere conjecture. On Monday morning the west beach of the Leven was strewed with the wreck and cargo. The crew of (he unfortunate vessel consisted of two brothers, Thomas and Abraham Htiydon, sons of Mr T. Haydon, n respectable farmer at the Leveu. A female passenger had been landed at the Pengtfiu on Sunday. Abraham liny don leaves a young widow and child. This sad occurrence has thrown several fiimi-lie-s into deep digress. The priucipal part of cargo, consisting of soft goods, &c, belonged to Mr Fogg, the posnia&ter and storekeeper at the Liven, worth about LSOO. A man of the name of George Lewis had been in Launceston, and laid out his all in cargo, which he had put on board the Keera. Search lias been made all along the coast for the bo Jies of the young men, but up to this time they have not been found." — " Launccbton Times," October 16.
