The agricultural show to-day was a great •failure, both as regards exhibits and attendance.
The Wellington mail cart was capsized yesterday. The Hon. J. Baker's log was broken, and Mr S. Davenport seriously bruised.
Messrs Hogarth, Mildred, Bagot, and Hodgkiss, have been declared elected to the Legislative Council. Another election will probably take place, as Mr Hogarth has been elected on both writs.
A strong feeling exists in favor of railway extension. In the list of mail contracts accepted, Messrs Cobb aud Co. have obtained three. There is no enquiry for wheat, and the market is very dull. Prices range from 4s 8d to 4a lOd. Flour is nominally at Lll lOsto Ll2 10s. Arrived. — City of Adelaide, in seventy days, from Plymouth. October 12. The liabilities of Messrs John Holman and Co., toy merchants, who have stopped payment, are set down at Ll ß,ooo. Mr M'Kinlay, 'in ,his despatches, describes Mr Manton, the Government Resident at the Northern Territory, as a coward aud a maniac.

In the Assembly, Mr Reynolds brought forward his motion of want of confidence in the Government this afternoon, and, after a long debate, be wished to withdraw it, but the House refused to allow him to do so. Had the motion been carried the Government would have dissolved Parliament.
News from the Darling states that the river is still falling.
Strong opposition is shown to the erection of toll-bars on the roads. Tl»o Ron, J, ftakor is out of danger, '<
Lady Dal y* v who has been seriously ill, is convalescent. Specimens of anthracite coal have been brought from Port Lincoln. ' Business continues vefy quiet, and money is scared, although the feeling latterly has been more cheerful. There is some enquiry for cornsacks ; sales were made to-day at 14s 6d. The corn market is very dull. There is no export demand. Sales of wheat to millers at 4s 9d. Flour at nominal prices.
