The commercial importance of the West Coast Goldfields, and their extensive business dealings with other ports of New Zealand, as well as with the Australian colonies, render a full and accurate Directory not only desirable but an actual necessity to men of business. The printers and publishers of the present work, having previously brought out most successfully similar works in Dunedin and Invercargill for the past five years, undertake the present task with a feeling that the public will repose confidence in their ability to produce a comprehensive and thoroughly reliable Directory of Ihese Goldfields, and certainly not inferior to any published in other places. The publishers intend also to give lithographed plans of Hokiti!«a and Greymouth, with the Nos. of the sections delineated 1 thereon ; and if they find sufficient encouragement, they will give a lithographed bird's eye view of the town of Hokitika, with the various stores and places of business plainly indicated.
