Wednesday, October 17.

Dbunkennes. — Elizabeth O'Neil and John Nicholas were respectively charged with being drunk nnd incapable. They were each fined ss, in default, 24 -hours imprisonment.

Perjury. — George H. Chamberlain was again brought up on remand charge 1 with wilful and corrupt perjury. The police again applied for a further remand in consequence of the non arrival of the Christchurch coach . They had not received any advices from Christchurch. Prisoner was accordingly remanded on his own bail till ' the 26th inst.

Larcent. — George H. Chamberlain and J. A. Abridge were charged with larceny from a dwelling. Mr Button appeared for prisoner Aldridge, The police applied for a remand on the grounds stated in the first application. Mr Button opposed the application. He submitted that the police were, in point of fact, asking his Worship to ignore the Habeas Corpus Act, the Magna Charta, and the petition of Rights. Besides, the prisoner Aldridge had now been in gaol some three months, and he was constantly being reminded from time to-tinic^-BTid ho therefore hoped his Worship would discharge them. His Worship sympathjsed with the prisoners, but could not set them at liberty. He would, however, release each of them upon .their own respective bonds in the sum of LIOO each.

John H. Carr was again placed in the dock and remanded till the 26th inst. He being bound for his appearance in his own bond in the sum of LIOO.

CIVIL CASES.

Nolan v. White.— His Worship gave judgment thi3 morning. He must under the circumstances nonsuit the plaintiff.

The Court was then adjourned till tomorrow (this day) at 11 a.m.
