The 10, schooner, on her passage from Hokitika to this port had to contend against some very rough weather. Shortly after soiling she had light easterly -winds; an exceedingly violent gale then set in from the N.E., veering round to the N., then into N.W., and finally settled in the S W., from which point it blew with hurricane force. During the continuance of the gale the schooner was hove-to for three successive days, it being impossible to show a stitch of canvas. The gale was- followed by a succession of light winds to within 100 miles of Flinders Island. On Hearing this coast, on the evening of Thursday last, the lo felt the full force of the southerly gale, which outside the heads was accompanied with sharp squalls of hail and rain.— Melbourne " Argus," October Bth.
