AUCKLAND.

(From telegrams in the Christchurch ' -papers.) Auckland advices give particulars of two fires in that city. On Saturday morning one occurred in a block of buildings near Symond street cemetery. The fire spread, and before it could be arrested eleven buildings were destroyed. Most ;of the property is insured. Rain fell in torrents during the latter part of the fire. '

While this fire was at its_ height another broke out in an unoccupied cottage in White street, over Upper Queen street. The cottage was destroyed. The cause of fire is unknown, but as it happened in an empty house suspicions of its being the work of an incendiary are strong. '

The Catholic Chapel at Opitiki was also burned on' Sept. 18.

The Auckland " Herald" of Oct. 1 says that danger of trouble with the natives of Hawke's Bay is imminent. The. Waikato friendlies were said to have left their lands, joined the rebels, an<l were preparing to fight for the country after the soldiers had gone. It was their intention to attack .Napier. The Napier "Herald" repeats this the next day, and says that it is all too true. The " Southern Cross " is silent upon the matter.
