The Beatrice arrived this morning from the Northern Te^ritoryy bringing as passengers Messrs M l Kinlay, Edmunds, and Glen. M'Kinlay's exploration had proved a failure, owing to heavy flbod^. The party had to kill their horses for food, and' finally returned to Escape Cliffs by descending the East Alligator Biver in boats made of poles covered with horseskins. They endured terrible hardships. They found the natives friendly. At the 'settlement all was well. Surveying was .at a standstill.

Considerable attention is now beiug given to the question of the drainage of the city. The elections for the Council are creat"ing but little excitement. Messrs Fiveash and Stow are spoken of as likely candidates for the vacant distiict of Flinders.
