HlDES— Communicate IT at once with your Brother Herbert., Post Office Hokitika. Just arrived. 4555 Election Notice. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL, HOKITIKA. r^ ENTLEMEN,— I feel it my duty, as \J* a candidate for the Municipal Council, to address a few words to you on the subject *of the approaching election. Mv long residence amongst you, my interest in the town, and my connection with the late •Improvement Committee, will, I think, justify me in claiming your votes on my behalf. lam personally known to most of the electors, and, I think I need scarcely say, that if elected to the honor of occupying a seat in the Council, I shall support such measures as will tend to secure the welfare and prosperity of Hokitika. Many reforms and improvements, which it would be out of place in me to mention in detail, are, we all know, urgently needed, and to carry -them into effect, is, I hold, the primary duty incumbent upon the first Municipal Council. There is one point which has been mooted, and upon which I would state my opinion. While -regretting that such a small proportion of influential men have a voice in the election of the first Council, I cannot agree with Mr Shaw's suggestion, that the successful candidates* should pledge themselves to resign (when the ratepayers' roll has been compiled). Because Ido not think that the evil sought to be avoided by the proposed resignation would be so great as that consequent upon the waste- of time in going through forms and routine, especially at such an important time of the year as the present. I am, nevertheless, quite willing to resign, provided the majority are of Mr Shaw's opinion. I am, Gentlemen,/ v Your obedient servant, James R. Anderson.
