MAURITIUS.

(FROM THE'ARars' OBRE3POXDEXT.) v Ponx Louis, July 26. Our staple continues to be received in Port Louis, although hitherto- in very moderate quantities. There is an ( active demand existing for sugar required^for exportation tayour colony, Bombay, and the Cape/and in consequence each lot, as it comes to town, is placed at favorable rates". Owing to the high prices ruling in Melbourne many firms aje endeavouring to purchase for shipment to thence, but the absence of sugar from the market in any quantity prevents large shipments, and I think it, most probable that s^x weeks, or perhaps even more, may elapse befoi'e any hcavy x embarkations of produce take place. The following are to-day's quotations for sugar : — Finest white crystals, 7dolßoo to Bdol per 100 Ib 3 ; rfecdhd quality do, 7dol 30c to 7dol 50c do ; medium yellow crystals, 6clol 60c to 6dol 75c do ; good yellow counters, Cdol 60c to 6dol 7sc do; 'middling do, 6dol 40c to 6dol 50o ; good yellow syrup, 6dol to 6dol 25c do ; good brown do., sdol 50c to sdc4 75c per 100 lb ; middling do, odol 30c to sdol 40c do ; low do, 4dol 30c to .4dol 50c. -'Business is* on a good footing in the island, and the planters look forward to a favorable year. It is yet expected that the 'crop will reach the quantity first estimated, viz., 150,000 tons. The expenses *f our agriculturists, however, continue to be heavy, on account of tho high priceof rice (Bengal being worth 6dol 25c per bag) , -attributable to the famine in Ori9sa, which has attracted many shipments thither that were at first destined for this port.
