The s.s. Beautiful Star has nearly completed loading at Dunedin. She will sail for this port on the 10th instant. The s.s. Thane, cattle laden, arrived off tho port yesterday morning, and communicated with the 'shore by signal. On being informed that tlie bar was impassable she stood to sea again, and is supposed fo have run for the Grey. AlthoKgh her position is yet rather risky, we think we arc justified in assuming that the p.s. Lioness is out of lianger. Since Wednesday night tho work of raising her has progressed mo9t satisfactorily, as she is now almost oil a level with the crown of the beach, and, morever, well blocked and shored, The sea nuiet now be unusually heavy to damage her. We trust that in a. day or ' two v we shall see, her safely afloat in the small Ingoon which is- formed by the bight in the North Spit. Yesterday quite one hundred men must have been at work round the. old craft, screwing her up, levelling the waya, blocking, &c., and as they worked with a will, and had abundance of material at hand necessary for the purpose, we believe the launch will take place on or about Saturday night. So far the Lioni'ss has received but little dainngu ; a few of tlie angle irons in tlie wake of the port bunker alone having broken. The repairs necessary to render her sufficiently seaworthy for the ' voyage^ rsund to Dunedin can easily be effected in Hokitika, so that we trust in the course of a week ihe will take her departure for that port, there to undergo such extensive repairs that, when turned out of hand by the shipwrights, she will be almost a new boat.

There were thirteen vessels lying at the wharf last night, and, excepting a collier from Greymouth, all were clear of cargo and outward-bound. Several would ' have left tlie river days ago, had tlie bar been passable, amongst which vre may include the Cosmopolite, J. B. Russell,' and s.s. Keera. Tlie entrance, however, continues in a wretched condition, &» the. tail o.f the South Spit projects into the channel towards the North Spit, leaving a narrow, shallow gut way, through which no veß^el can pass with any degree of safety. Even the Ynrra, p.s>., with her light draught, refused to attempt it last night, and, in consequence, the s.s. Gothenburg sustains a further delay of at-least twelve hours- That regular Lyttelton trader, the Spray, is also lying in the roadstead, waiting for a chance to get inside. Last night there was every appearance of a change in the weather, and a heavy down pour of rain is much to be desired, as that alone, by rising the river, will clear the channel. We haTe never seen the entrance in a worse state.

The P.N.Z. and A. R.M. Compauv's steameiClaud Hamilton shipped 61700z. of gold on Tuesday, and sailed the same day for Sydney. — " Grey Rirer Argus," September 6.
