HOKITIKA FIRE-BRIGADE.

The usual monthly meeting of the Fire Brigade was held at the Hall, Revel street, on Monday evening last. Lieutenant Horn being called to the chair the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, after which the resignations of' Captain Millard, Mr C. Suisted, and Mr R. Shields, were laid upon the table. '

A letter from Mr Mumford was read, requesting the patronage of the Brigade at a theatrical entertainment, to be held on Thursday evening 1 , the 6th instant, at the Prince of Wales Opera House. After a short consultation the request was unanimously acceded to by the meeting. The following accounts were passed :—: — to the " Hokitika Chronicle," for printing and advertising, L2ss ; *' Kvening Star,' 1 L 7; John Stewart, 15a ; J. C. Millard, L 4 19s 6d.

A communication from the Secretary of the' proposed Nelson Fire Brigade was submitted to the meeting. It requested that a copy of the Hokitika Fife Brigade rules might be forwarded to ' Nelson. Tne requested was acceded to, and the Secretary instructed to forward a copy by the first mail.

The resignations of Captain Millard, Mr Suisted, and Mr Shields were next read when it was proposed and carried that the resignation of Mr Shields be accepted. A requisition', signed by twenty members of the Brigade, was sent to Captain Millard, requesting him to withdraw his resignation. The "services of Mr Suisted were also considered too valuable to be dispensed with. Both gentlemen acceded to the desire thus expressed, by consenting to continue as members.

The office of foreman having been 'proclaimed vacant through the resignation of Mr Shields, Messrs. Suisted, Makelevy, Hudson, and D^ck,were proposed as fitting persons to fill it. After some further discussion, appertaining to minor affairs of the Brigade, the following gentlemen were proposed as working members : — Messrs. J. Henshaw (junr.), Arnott, C. Goodfellovv, and C. Smith ; and Messrs. Spicer, Fitzsimmonf, and Higgins, were proposed as honorary members,
