OUR GOLD EXPORT.

In our last summary for Europe, published on the 14th ult., we mentioned 1 that the very small amount of 8000 o?:s. of gold had been cleared for shipment from the port of Hokitika during the preceding month, but anticipated that a large parcel would be shipped by the steamer to sail on that day. This anticipation was realised, the Gothenburg taking away 18,000 ozs. from this port, and 10,000 ozs. from the Grey, making the export for the month 36,000 ozs., or nearly 10,000 ozs per week from the West Canterbury gold-fields alone.

Since the 16th August, a period of a fortnight, the amount of gold cleared at the port of Hokitika to the present date has been ll,ooaozs. This is exclusive of go.A shipped from the Grey, and also exclusive of that waiting clearance to-day for the Gotheuburg, which amounts we believe to a large quantity. As the Gothenburg proceeds direct to Melbourne without making an intermediate trip to the Grey according to the usual custom, it. may be expected that the quantity taken by her will be considerably affected. The General Government "Gazette" of the loth inst. contains a return of the quantity and value of gold exported from New Zealand during the quarter ended the 30th June, 1866.

From this document it appears that Dunedin exported, within the limits of the time covered by the return, a grand total of 45,008 ozs., of the value of L 174.406 ; whilst the exports from the West Coast, for the same period, of gold the produce of the gold-fields of Canterbury, amounted to 103,883 ozs., of the value of L402'856 — exclusive of 30,130 ozs., of the value of Ll 16,754 cleared from Greymouth, the produce of the province of Nelson. The port of Hokitika alone exported for the quarter-, nearly double the quantity shipped from the province of Otago, the comparative figures being Hokitika 83,400 ozs, Dunedin 45,008 ozs.
