VICTORS. The "Argus" of the 28th reports of the Melbourne markets :—: —

In the import market to-day, though business has opened out for the week without any transactions of importance to record, a healthy feeling is apparent which it is confidently anticipated will lead to an improvement in trade generally. The market for breadstuffs steadily maintains its position, any sales effected having been at very full prices. Hart's Adelaide flour has been placed for transhipment, in parcels of twenty tons in a line, at H6 ss. Some small parcels of Port MucDonnell wheat have been placed at 7s, and sales of Chilian wheat have transpired at Cs l^d. Maize is firming, and were shipments on a more moderate scale than of late a rise in price would be the immediate result. Sales have been made at prices ranging from 'in 9d to 4s lid. Bran is disposed of at reduced rates ; parcels of Victorian have boon quitted as low as Is Gd. In sugars, rations are inquired for, and sales are reported at up to L26to L 27. In teas, wo learn of transactions to a^ moderate extent ; ordinary congous having been sold at Is 2d, and low common at lsJ4d. Malt, in trade parcels, continues i to bo placed at 9s 3d. Oilmen's stores meet with considerable attention, for as prices appear to have seen their lowest, the larger buyers are more inclined to operate. A thousand cases of Batty's pickles, in two lines of 500 cases each, have changed hands on private terms, said to be a figure which justifies holders in asking 8s 6d for small parcels. In liquids, wo learn of bhlcb of Bass's ale, No 3, at L 7. Inquiries for bulk stout have also been experienced, which it is likely will lead to sales of the Artillery Brewery Company's at L 7 to L 7 ss, offers at less money having been refused. Machen's
