Friday, August 24.

Drunk and Incapable. — Patrick Butler and Charles Meade were both fined 5s for this offence, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment with hard labor. Breach op Police Ordinance. —W. Thomas, mate of the schooner Maid of Erin, was charged by Benjamin Taggart with using threatening and abusive language, calculated to provoke a breach of the peace, towards him on the 20th inst., by saying, " If you come down to the ship again, I'll smash your ty jnut" Neither party appearing, ,the information was accordingly dismissed. Assault. — llobert Mills was charged by Joseph Fishwick with assaulting Mary Fishwick, by striking her with his fist on her face. Defendant failing to appear, a warrant was ordered to issue for his apprehension.

Breach of Canterbury Police Ordinance. — James Goodwin was charged by Margaret Ilunt with Using abusive and obscene language towards her .within hearing of a public place, on the 17th instant, by calling her an old sow, and an old swine, and by asking her how she got her living. Mr liees appeared for the complainant, and Mr Button for the defendant. The information was dismissed, as it was shewn that the language was not made use of in a public place as provided by the ordinance.

Civil) tusfeS:

Allen V. lloherts. — This case was heard on the 23rd inst., when the Magistrate reserved his judgment until to-day. Judgment was given for the defendant, with costs.

The Court waa then adjourned until eleven o'clock to morrow (this day).
