Various opinions are expressed with regard to Bank Directors not reducing the rate of discount, but a general belief prevails that they have been guided by a sincere desire to uphold the substantial interests of the country. COLONIAL GOVERNMENT SECURITIES. New South Wales five per cents., 1866, no quotations. New South Wales five per cents? 1871-76, 92 to 94. ' Victoria six per cents., 102 to 104. New Zealand five per cents., 94 to 96. Queensland five per cents , January and July, 96 to 98. South Australian five per cents., 1878, and upwards, no quotations.
Total liabilities of the Agra aud M aster mail's Bank are stated to be L 7,906,892, and the assets arc estimated at L 9,058,497.
The Board of Trade returns for the month present favorable results. Exports to Adelaide and New Zealand show a marked decrease. Foreign .Exchanges are unsettled, owing to Continental war, — especially between Holland and Austria ; but public feeling in England in money matters is improving.
