The Melbourne "Argus" of the 2nd inst. reports : — In the import markets, there is little business doing, and complaints against tho unueual dulness prevailing have become very general. Speculation is entirely dormant, aud for trade purposes tho local dealers only ope.l rate with the utmost caution. In the market
for breadstuffs, sales of flour have been confined to the disposal of a few small parcels for immediate requirements, at Ll6 10s for Adelaide town made ; but though Ll6 is nominally quoted for country flour, we learn that even Ll3 has not been refused for s\ich brands. Barley is iv fair request at 4s lOJtl to ss, according to quantity, while for a shipment o 4000 bushels in a line, disposed of to-day, a slight concession on our quotation was allowed. A considerable parcel of oats, somewhere about 10,000 bushels, has changed hanged hands on private terms. At auction, some 1 100 bushels " damaged were quilted at 4s 4£d to 4s 9(1. Make is difficult to quit, witli a tendency in favor of buyci'3, for though offered freely at 5s 3d, (he quantity got rid of proved iuconridemblo In liquids pale brandies, of 'Mai-tcll's aud HeuliMsy's, continuo to be inquired for ; and of quarters alone, for immediate delivery, sales have been made as high as Bs. ; hhds. and quarters alone have been placed at up to 7s 9d, and a small parcel of half dark and half pale realised 6s Ud overhead. A shipment of common port wine, equal to twenty-five pipes, [ in hhds. and quartei*-casks, has been sold, to arrive, at L2l. A very considerable inquiry for bottled ales has sprung up, but at the low. prices offered by buyers there is no inducement to sell, and only little actual business .has been dove. Notwithstanding, offers have been made for outside brands to the extent of 1000 cases in a line. At auction some 700 bags of sugar found buyers at fair rates, condition and quality considered. To-morrow, we observe that the cai'go of tho Sirene, consisting of 6100 bage, will be offered by pubHc sale, at eleven o'clocki The caivo of Ihe
Paramatta, comprising 3000 small and 4500 large bags, will also be offered, at haK-past eleven o'clock.
