We need scarcely remind the public of the complimentary benefit to be given to-night, at the Prince of Wales Theatre, to Mr James Bartlett.' This gentleman has deserved well of the public for the enterprise he displayed in erecting the noble place of public entertainment of which he is the proprietor — for his 'engagement of an efficient and powerful dramatic company, and for the high class of pieces he has put upon the stage, and the ■effectiveness of scenery and other accessories ■with which they have b&en produced. Of his own merits as an actor we cannot speak in too high terms. It is his claims alike aB an artist, as a manager, and a» a man of bold enterprise, the public are asked to recognise to-night, and it would be but a sorry compliment to him to do more than to give his fellow-townsmen this simple reminder. The programme comprises Mrs Centlivre's great comedy of " The Wonder," the sensational drama of "The Corsican Brothers," and other incidental entertainments. In order to rendor the benefit a substantial one, the committee under ■whose auspices it is given have raised the prices to the Dress Circle and StalU, the former being fixed at 7s 6d, and the- latter at ss. The admission to the pit will be the same as usual. We. are requested to call attention to this circumstance by Mr Lionel Harding, who inadvertently omitted to alter the prices in the usual day bill.
