I may hero mention, with regard to the late contest between Mr W. S. Moorhouso and mysolf ' for tho representation of Wostland in tho General Assembly, that no ono can bo better pleased at my defeat than I am myself, and that I sincerely rejoice at tho return of« my opponent, who, at tho time, was a stranger to most of us, but in whom I recognise an ablo and staunch advocato of our common interests, and through whom, with tho aid of a respectable and influential Council Hokitika cannot fail to advance.
