Eleotion Notices. •• offorcd me, however, I understand it to bo their wish that Mr Reeves and mysolf should become candidates for the town ot Hokitika, and that Mr. Cassius should !• associated with Mr.. Barff in the reproson* • v tationof tho goldfields. I have ascertained from personal communication with these gentlemen that this is tho arrangemont assented to by them — an arrangement that may secure to oach of the two electorates ono representative in th Provincial Council chosen from amongst tho mercantile men of the district. On this understanding, I have much pleasure in complying with your requost, and placing my services at the disposal of the electors of Hokitikfc should they bo disposed to endorse the judgment you have been pleased to place upon their value. As it is upon theitf support I depend for election, I will take a very early opportunity of explaining to them my political views. I will only say, in conclusion, that in my opinion Westland enjoys, at this moment, an opportunity — if the occasion bo wisely and earnestly improved—of offecting a mosts salutary change in its local administration, and of exorcising a powerful influence on tho proceedings of the legislature, to whioh the caro of its interests in common with those of tho province at largo is confided. Should I have the onor to be elooted, I will always bear in mind that I am especially a re* prosentativo of tho West Coast, and that tho West Coast ia not tho least important division of the' Province or the one that calls for tho lesser share of the general attention of the legislature. I have the honor ,to be Gentlemen, Your obliged and obedient servant, Thos. L, Bbight. To Messrs.
