Drunkenness. — Thomas O'Connell and John Scott were both fined 5s for being drunk, and 15s for disorderly conduct, or in default 48 hours imprisonment with hard labor. Michael Spillan was also fined 5s for this offence, or in default 2<L hours imprisonment with hard labor.

Lunacy — John Eaton, brought up on remand from 29th ult, charged with being of unsound miud, was discharged, on the medical evidence of Drs Ryley and Beswick.

Assault.-- Win. T. Walker was charged by his wife with assaulting her on the 24th ult. There waa no appearance of either party. Information dismissed. Assault. — George Holmes was charged by Michael Fox with assaulting him on the 26th ult., and fined 10s.

Brkach op New Zealand Stuam Navigation Act — Joseph Johnson and John Richards were charged by Captain Turner, master of the s.s. Star of tho Evening, with obtaining passages from Melbourne to Hokitika by that vessel without paying their passage money. Rohbkrv from tub ruRBON with violence. — Edward Jones was brought up on remand from the 23rd tilt., whon the evidence of the apprehending constable was taken, and tho prisoner remanded until this day, to allow the police to procure the attendance of the prosecutor. Sergeant Ilickson stated that the police had used every exertion but had not been able to find the prosecutor, and applied for a further remand for eight days. Mr Button on behalf of the prisoner, requested that the prisoner might be admitted to bail on Ins own recognizance. 110 was accordingly remanded to the Bth, his own bail for £50 being taken.
