The Challenge,' tug' 'steamer, brought from the Claud Hamilon tho/ passengers ancl mails for the port, The cargo will bo landed by lighter, and partially yesterday per Persevere steamer. The paddle-steamer Persevere left Hokifika ■on Tuesday, arriving off tho Grey samo tide, but too late, to tako tho bar. Next tide proceeded over the bar with safety and discharged cargo. On Wednesday, at 2 p.m., went over the.bar and towed in tho Cymrncs, fr»m Dunedin, rind, subsequently towed in tho Falcon, from Ilokitika ; then towed out tho Murray, bound Melbourne, and at 6.30 p.m. took the Maid of tho Mill, from Lyltclton, in tow wiilv 1 safety over tho brir. On Thursday tonsd out the John and Jano, bound for Melbourne, and , landed from tho Claud Hamilton " 35 passengers from Nelson. Yesterday movning she loft' the Grey" at 1 a.m., and on arrival off Hokitika went alongside tho Claud Hamilton to receive shcop aud cargo, arriving at the wharf at 5 p.m. Captain Macmoikan reports the Grey bar as bad j only .6 feet of water upon it at full tide. The Lioness was in the Groy.
