DUNEDIN.

Tho " Otago Daily Times," in its Summary for Europe, reports, on tho 18th inst. : — While tho business of the month has not been actually dull, there has been, especially in tho import market, loss of an interesting naturo to record and fewer noticeable transactions than usual. Tho supplies to hand havo bcon small, and stocks remain very limited in extent, with prices for most goods too high to allow of tho partly or wholly speculative operations which, in tho ordinary condition of tho markets, form the most considerable and exciting features of business, Tho couutry trade has, during tho greater part of the month, been affected to dulnoss by the misunderstanding through which tho usual means of transit for supplies has been stopped, but for the past fow days considerable activity bus beon witnessed in getting away accuimilated orders. Notwithstanding that business has been, from want of stock and othor causes, restricted in amount, no other cause for dissatisfaction exists. Credit has been well sustained, and bill paymonts punctually made, good prices and safe risks being the rulo, from which, at no previous time, has there beon fewer exceptions. An unusually late and protracted wool season has terminated in tho despatch of tho ship Warrior Queen, with tho last of tho olip which will go forward direct. The total amount shipped will bo found to compare most favorably with tho returns of previous seasons. Mining matters have beon comparatively quiet, not that any falling off in tho alluvial yields or returns of tho mining compauics is tho caso, but tho foyer for fresh undertakings is abated, in consequence of tho difficulty in diverting enough capital into the channels of such new enterprises.
