The ' p.s. . Bruco returned from Okarita yeitordoy , morning, which port she left on Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. with the schooner lonn in tow. Slio brings about thirty passengers and lOOOoz of gold-dust. Whilst at Okarita sho towed out tho Lapwing cutter and schooner Mary. The John Mitchell had previously sailed out for the Grey. Tho Bruce having discharged cargo on Friday, proceeded to Bruco Bay for tho purpose of bringing away the constabulary stationed there, as well as stores for Okarita, and also passengers and 'stores for Hokitika, arriving again at Okarita on Saturday. Sho reports the sohooners Three Brothers and Phconix waiting to bo towed out of Okarita, The Tiger,' schooner, waß off the port on Thursday, but was not subsequently seen. The Thames in entering tho river got aground on Bruce Bank, whoro she discharged cargo, and would in all probability havo to wait for full spring tides before getting off. In coming out of Okarita, tho Bruce grounded slightly, and the Ion» heavily 5 but the steamer bucceeded iv towing tho lona out with safety. Captain Kerley reports the channel as uarrow, ana very sharp elbows and difficult to bo marked, unless for steamers of light draught of water. The p.s. Persevere arrived from tho Grey, yesterday, where sho had been ;u attendance upon tho Claud Hamilton. Sho also towed in tho ketch Secret, from tho Manukau, and tho Johu Mitchell, from Okarita. On hor arrival at Hokitika, sho at once took in tow the shooner Mary Ann, ostousiblyJbr Invercargill, but wo believe on an exploring expedition. It is oxpected sho will bo away for two or three months. BWmtho "Otago Daily Times," of 10th ihstdift, we learn the particulars of tho total lo8B"',of the Bchopner Yarra, a craft which m tide several successful voyages to this port last 'year. ' The above journal says : — " Captain M'Callura, late master of tho schooner Yarra, belonging to this port, arrived in tho Phofebe, from Lyttolton, on Monday. Ho reports having left Port Clmlmors on tho 11th ult. . for Waikava, and anchorod at Otago Heads until tho 13th, when eho got under weigh with a fresh breeze from N.E., but was met by a heavy. S.W. gale ; put into Molynoux Bay, and brought up witli singlo anchor and fo'rty-flvo fathoms chain. Tho barquo Eucalyptus, schooners John Bullock, Juno Elkin, Wallace, and Cnrolino in company. On the evening of the 16th the wind veered round to tho eastward, got under weigh, and while; beating out of Molyneux Bay, at 8.10 . p.m. observed tho Eucalyptus reaching towards her on the port tack, Bhowed the lights, put the helm hard-a-port to avoid a collision, but almost immediately aftorwards was itruck by the Eucalyptus on tho port bow, which carried away bowsprit, started covering board, besides other damage on tho quarter ; at 8.20 p.m. Nuggets Point boro S. half-a-railo. On the following day inicliorod in ten fathoms, Waikava Head bearing N. one mile 5 ut two a.m. on the 18th the' wind ehiftod suddenly to W.S.W: towardß afternoon, tho wind increased to a heavy gale, with a tremendous sea; slipped anchor and chain, and bore up for Molynoux Bay, but was unablo to fetch in 5 at 5.50 a.m. on the 19th sho was struck by a heavy sea, whic shifted her ballast and laid tho vessel on her beam ends j cut away tho mainmasj; to get tho ship before the wind and sea. The mainmast, in going ovor tho side, carried with it tho forotopmast and yard, leaving nothing standing but the foremast and yard. At noon kept tho ship running before tho wind, ship rolling and straining fearfully, and shipping a deal of water. Tho ohief mate was hurt by tho mainmast being cut away. In fact the vessel was entirely disabled and • almost unmanageable, and had to run before tho wind at every shift. At eight a.m. on the 20th, spoke tho brigantino Triton, from Newcastle to Timaru, but, owing to tho heavy soa running, could render no assistanco. Ship still driving to tho northward. On Saturday, 21st ultimo, tho wind moderated and veered round to S.S.E., light and hazy weather; kept tho vessel for Banks' Peninsula with only squareanil set, tho forestaysail having been partially blown away and under repair. 'At noon on tho 22nd, Akaroa boro N. by W. 12 milos, when tho wind veered round to NNE. j Bteored a course for Timaru, not being able to touch any part of Banka'Peninsula. On the following morning tho wind chopped in to NW. variable; up holm again for Banks' Peninsula. In the afternoon tho wind chauged to BE. On the moraine of tho 24th tho brooze inoreased. with & heavy easterly swell rolling in ; found tho vessel making too Much leeway to weather fho Peninsula, woro ship on port tack. At 11 p.m. Bounded in ton fathoms, and at 11 40 p.m. anchored in soven fathoms, but in consequent of tho chain parting, vessol • was thrown on tho beach, about fifteen mile* westward of tho western extreme of Banks' Peninsula. . The tide being on tho ebb, and the vessel boing of light draft, her passengers and crow were all enabled to walk on shoro at low water. The vessel was left embedded in the shingle, and no hopes of hor getting off.
