May 10. Sir Charles Darling arrived on Wednesday, at midnight. He was met on the wharf by about 300 persens, headed by a band playing " Rule Britannia," and his landing was accompanied by a display of fireworks. An address was presented to him, which he feelingly acknowledged. Ho wrote a letter to the demonstration committee, stopping the proposed demonstration. The Raudwick Races took place on Saturday. Rous Handicap. Cossack 1 Pitsford 2 Randwick Handicap. Sultana I Sappho 2 Queen's Plate, Cossack 1 Tarragon 2 Cannobie 3 Time, 54 seconds. Nursery Handicap. Bard 1 Fishhook 2 Mr Buchannan, M.P. lectured on Monday on the Wrongs of Ireland, referring to the suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act and the fund for the relief of state prisoners. The meeting was held in the Temperance Hall which was densely crowded. He believed the Fenians to bo true patriots ; reviewed the policy of England with regard to Turkish^ Polish, and Danish wars most bitfcorly. Eveoy sentence was most favorably received. ' The Bargo Brush prisoners have all been committed for trial for the murdor of Constable Raymond. Arrived — Prince Alfred, from Auckland.
