TO MINING COMPANIES, SPECULATORS AND OTHERS. TWELVE HORSE POWER PORTABLE STEAM ENGINE, TO ARRIVE. TJICHARD REEVES and Co. havo oceived instructions from the consignees 0 sell on an oarly day (duo notice of wliich will be given), 12-Horse Powor Portable Steam Engine, of tho celebrated manufacture of Marshall, Son & Co., Britannia Iron Works, Gainsborough. Tho boiler is multi-tubular ; the sholl is of bost Staffordshire plato, and the firebox all of Low Moor iron ; tho tubos aro wrought iron, woll disposed for strength, and with amplo spaco'for tho circulation of water, and tho settling of sediment ; the ash pan fits closely to tho bottom of fire-box, and has a flap-door attached to regulate tho draught. The appendages comprise second lock-up safety valve, stoamo pressure guago and signal whistle, stcflm indicator, glass- water guago, guago cock, blow-off cock, &c. Tho boiler is clothed with hair folt, lagged with wood, and cased with sheet iron, and its capacity is larger than usual for tho nominal powor of tho engine. Tho working parts of tho ongino aro arranged with much simplicity on tho top of tho boiler, whero thoy can bo woll scon and easily got at by an attendant. By an improved self-contained arrangement of cylinder and steam chest, access can bo had to tho slido, throttle, and stop-valves, by simply taking off tho stoam-chost id. " v Tho cylinder is also covered with hair felt, wood and shoot iron, in tho saino way as tho boiler, and fitted with connected blow-off cocks and greaso cups. Tho piston is metallic, and of improved construction, and has a steol piston rod ; Iho slido bars and valve rods aro also of steol, The crank shaft is made of tho best scrap iron of tho locomotive form, and of sufficient length to carry a fly-wheel at one end, and a pulley at tho other, so that tho machinory can bo drivon from either side of the engine, or both sides at tho same time. Tho fly-wheel is turned on its periphery, and boing accurately countorwoighted, longitudinal vibration of tho engine is prevented, which, when it occurs, not only increases wear and tear, but is a frequent cause of tho driving strap running off. Provision is made for rovorsing tho motion .of tho ongino by a simple adjustment of tho slido valvo eccentric, and tho speed is regulated by a direct-acting governor. A forco pump, driven vortically from tho crank shaft, is attachod to tho boiler for supplying it with water 5 but a Gilford's injector can bo applied instead if required. All pins, oyos, and mits, aro case hardened ; and solf-acting lubricators, wrought out of tho solid matorial, aro fitted to tho journals and slides. This engine is fitted with a complete sot of caso-hardenodjhainmers, firing tools, funnel, tube, brush, oil feeder, spare guago glass, spare fusible plug, and a waterproof cover, and furnished with chock chains, ock chains, shoe and chain. This ongino has boon tested under steam at a high prossuro before it loft tho works. Tho power is calculated at 351bs prossuro of stoam in tho boiler, but it may bo safoly worked at 601bs prossuro (tho boilerplates boing of extra strength, and thoroughly woll stayed) at which it would givo off double its nominal power.
