The inquiries for hams, bacon, candles, cheese, buttor, and oats for tho West Coast have been very active during tho wook, and tho pricos of ,many of these articles have advanced vory considerably. English hams, bacon, and cheeno aro still out of stock, and would command high prices. Caudles ayp dearer, holders asking Is 3d per lb. Colonial butter v> scavco. Oats aro being hold back, as tho rales olForod do not iuduco tho farmors to bring their grain to market. Good shcopwash tobacco is scarce.
Tho fourth of tho month liaß passod off pretty fairly, and, in tho absonco t of failures, may bo regarded as satisfactory.
