TO MINING COMPANIES, SPECULATORS AND OTHERS. TWELVE HORSE POWER PORTABLE STEAM ENGINE, TO ARRIVE, T)IOHARD REEVES and Co. havo Xi received instructions from tho consignees to sell on an early day (duo notice of which will bo given), 12-Horse Powor Portable Steam Engine, of tho celebrated manufacture of Marshall, Son & Co., Britannia Iron Works, Gainsborough. _____ The boiler is multi-tubular ; tho shell is of best Staffordshire plate, aud tho firebox all of Low Moor iron ; the tubes are wrought iron, well disposed for strongth, and with ample space for the circulation of water, and tho settling of sediment ; tho ash pan fits closely to tho bottom of fire-box, and has a flap-door attached to regulate tho draught. Tho appendages comprise second lock-up safety valve, steame pressure guage and signal whistle, steam indicator, glass-water guago, guage cock, blow-off cock, &c. Tho boiler is clothed with hair felt, lagged with wood, and eased with sheet iron, and its oapacity is larger than usual for tho nominal powor of tho ongino. The working parts of tho ongino aro arranged with much simplicity on tho top of tho boiler, whero thoy con bo well seen and easily got at by an attendant. By an improved self-contained arrangement of cylinder and steam chest, access can bo had to tho slide, throttle, and stop-valves, ' by simply taking off tho steam-chest lid. The cylinder is also covorod with hair felt, wood and sheet iron, in the same way as tho boiler, and fitted with connected blow-off cocks and grease oups, Tho piston is metallic, and of improved construction, and has a steel piston rod ; the , slide bars and valvo rods aro also of steel, Tho crank shaft is made of tho best scrap iron of the locomotive form, and of sufficient length to carry a fly»wheel at ono end, and a pulley at tho othor, so that tho machinery can be driven from either side of tho engine, or both sides at tho same time. Tho fly-wheel is turned on its periphery, and being accurately countorweighted, longitudinal vibration of the ongino is prevented, which, when it occurs, not only increases wear and tear, but is a frequent cause^of the driving strap run1 ning off. Provision is made for reversing tho motion of tho engine by a simplo adjustment of tho slide valvo eccentric, and tho speed is regulated by a direct-acting governor. A force pump, driven vertically from tho crank shaft, is attached to tho boiler for supplying it with water ; but a Gifford's injector can be applied instead if required. All pins, eyes, and nuts, are case hardened ; and self-acting lubricators, wrought out of tho solid material, aro fitted to the journals and slides. This engine is fitted with a complete set of case-hardened[hammers, firing tools, funnel, tube, brush, oil feeder, spare guage glass, spare fusible plug, and a waterproof cover, and furnished with check chains, ock chains, shoo and chain. This ongino has been tested under steam at a high pressure before it left tho works. Tho power is calculated at 351bs pressure of steam in tho boiler, but it may be safely worked at GOlbs pressure (tho boilerplates being of oxtra strongth, and thoroughly well stayed) at which it would givo off double its nominal power. This guago is niado to tomplato and guago thoughout. For further particulars apply to tho auctioneers. RICHARD REEVES & CO., 2459 Wharf-street. MR. ARMSON, Architect and Civil Engineer, has removed his offices to tho White Houso, Weld street. 2367 j
