From the Melbourne Papers. Sydney, Friday, April 27. The Northern mail robbers havo been remanded. The property found on them has been identified by tho passengers robbed, The sea broke into the Kiama harbor ■works, and filled the new basin. The escorts amount to 7700 ozs. The Sampson has mado a satisfactory trial trip, and leaves for Port Albert to morrow morning. The Fawn, from Chili, was .off tho tho Heads, waiting for orders. Saturday, April 28. Tho Randwick annual races have entirely engrossed attention to the suspension of business. Nothing is doing commercially. Tho public annual meeting of the two Associations was hold at Donilinquin to-day, Tho report of the Council was adopted by a largo majority, and a resolution was adopted, pledging the association to carry on tho agitation for separation with renewed vigor. Monday, April 30. The Fitzroy Iron Mines have stopped working, tho men have been discharged, and tho company is likely to be wound up. There is little betting on the races. Arrived. — Agnes Banfield, from Mauritius ; Louis Van Sweeden and Dutch barque, from Mauilla, with 1600 tons of sugar ; Coorong and Eliza Come, from Conception, with 700 tons of breadstuffs.
Adelaide, Friday, April 27. Tho Government accepted the offer of the Imperial Government to send out an artillery drill instructor. It is said that Captain Havt has been authorised to spend monoy, voted by the Assombly, in the purchase- of guns of position. A report is expected from Commodore Wiseman on the subject of coast defences. The Ellen Lewis sails for tho Northern Territory next Tuesday. Government send oloven men. It is reported sho will go on to Timor for a cargo of ponies, for the colonies. Saturday, April 28. Fuvther robberies, with firearms, havo occurred. Mr Storndale, of Assam, is horo, endeavoring to introduco tho cultivation of the tea plant. Many paits of tho Nor^h havo been unvisitod by rain.
Tho Old Adelaide Race-course Club ,havo made overtures to the Thebarton Club for an amalgamation. The result is not known. Monday, April 29. Tho Congregational Chapel at Port Adelaide has been totally destroyed by fire. The Lord Lyndhurst, with 1500 tons of copper ore, from Wallaroo to Swansea, has been stranded on Wasbutty Point, in Moonta Bay. The ship is in a very dangerous position, as the weather is threatening. The cargo is insured for £16,000 in Adelaide offices. Highly favorable news was received to-day from the Wheal Hughes minei York's Peninsula. There is a great rise consequently in the price of shares. Mr and Mrs Case open to-night at White's rooms. Business is vory dull. There are no transactions. Quotations are nominal. Wheat, 6s 6d; flour Lls 10s to LI 6 10s. The demand for sugars here for the purpose of export to the Melbourne market has been considerable, the quotations there being fully from L 3to L 4 per ton over prices here. Tho Coorong took 1400 bags of sugar.
