By the Gothenburg wo havo Inter files of papers from the whole of the neighboring colonies, and three days later American news than wns previously to hand by way of Auckland. In Melbourne, Mr Hugh George, the printer of " The Argus," is still in confinement under the Speaker's \Yavrnnt, for a breach of privilege committed by that journal, in characterising a statement made by tho Chief Secretary as " bristling nil over with falsehoods." " The Argus" defies the House, repeats its charge against the Minister in many variations of expression, and in a severe article upon the Governor himself, says that a statement mado by his Excellency is " not a falsehood,"— that it is " perfectly true—as true as that two and two make five." Mr Follower, after several days negotiation, had resigned the task of forming a Ministry, tbo retiring Government having declined to make jwovision before leaving office , for tho payment of tho outstanding Civil Service debts. We quote from tho papers as fully as our space permits, nnd must hold over further oxtraots until our next issue.

Wo rcgrot to loam that ho has loft a- wifo and young family wholly unprovidod for, and trust Ihufc tlioil* circum-. stances of painful bereavement will not bo forgolton by tho many Triondo of tbo husband and father, wtideo life has boon so awfully cut short. 110 was a Prcomason and a mombor of tho Faoifio Lodgo just oponod in Hokitika.
