Information has been received by tologram that in consequence of no freights offering in Dunedin for this port, the b.s. Keera has boon taken off tho berth.
With referonco to the lato trial of speed between the Otago and South Australian wo are authorised to state that the latter was not in good sailing trim, as her bottom had not been cleaned for eleven months, and was exceedingly foul. She was also burning a very inferior description of coal, tho produce of a new pit. With this fuel it was found impossible to keen up a full head of steam, and it is said that tins, combined with tho first disadvantage, lost hor the race. Tho unfavorable weather of yesterday prevented any communication (save by signal) •with the roadstead, for although the Bruce did cross tho bar en route for Greymouth, tho heavy sea rolling homo; and which increased in volume every hour, gavo uumistakoablo warning' that the Groy bar would bo impassable, and that the wisest courso would be to return. With commendable prudence, therefore, Captain Kerloy, when about, ton miles along the coast, slued his boat's hoad round and roturned to port. All day tho surf raged upon the beach, rolling up in breakers seven and eight feet high, indicating there must have been a heavy blow from tho SW outside to have sent Buoh a sea home upon tho coast. The s.s Gothenburg, with only half hor cargo discharged, lay at her anchor waiting for tho arrival of the Yarra and Ballarat, but as it ■was not considered advisable to send either of them outßide, and it was also uncertain when the sea would go down, she was signalled to proceed to Nelson, and thoro discharge the passengers and cargo she has for that port. She is to return here to-morrow on her way to Melbourne, when, should the woather permit, the balance of cargo consigned hero will bo landed. She leave* for Molbourno on the eighth.
