possession ? Tho witness thought not. — David Herbert Parsons said ho was ledgerat tho Bank of New Zealand, and rolncmbercd tho chequo produced in Court being presonted at tho Bank on Friday last. Ho examined tlio cheque, and on finding that tho dato was irregular, told the teller tho chequo could not bo paid on that account, and at tho snmo timo montioned that another chequo in tlio 6amo namo had beon presented earlier in tlio morning, when tho answer, . "No account," had been givon. — Constablo O'Brien deposed, as boforo, to having attested tlio prisoner- on Gibson's quay. — The prisoner in dofenco said, that had he not beon intoxicated at tho time, tho affair would never havo happened ; and said ho had not givon tho cheques ivith an intent to defraud. Tlio Magistrate said that tliero could not bo much doubt as to tho intention of the prisoner, as he had but lately comploted a sentence in Dunedin for committing a simiL lar offenco, and should thcroforo commit him to tako his trial at tho next Criminal Sittings. — Tho prisoner asked if bail would be allowed, and his Worship said that it wonld bo. William Goldong was charged with leaving his horse and dray in Eevcll street, 6n Thursday last. — Sergeant Dixon stated that he saw tho horso running towards tho Empire Hotol, V and when there turn round into the right-of-way at the side. Ho then ran after it and stoppod it, when the dofendant- came up, and said he had left the horso and dray outside a shop whilst ho had gono in for loading. — Fined 10s. The Court then adjourned until 11 o'clock to-morrow (this) morning.
