RESIGNATION OF THE SECRETARY FOR PUBLIC WORKS,
(From the Press, February 5.)
It is reported that Mr Hall has retired from tho office of Publio Works, and that Mr Frank Stewart has been offered the Secretaryship thus left vacant. If this bo true, Mr Stewart's appointment is one which wo should imagine will give general satisfaction. have reason to believe that tho report is well founded, and that Mr Stewart will accept the appointment. Mr Hall's; retirement from office will be, in many respects, a great loss to the country. Of his thorough acquaintance with tho details of his office, and his facility of explaining them to the Council, thero is but one opinion even on the part of thoso who differ from his views. No Government hns ever had a heavier task than that which fell to his lot connected with tho road to Wostland, and it is to bo regretted that ho will not see the result of his labors before retiring from offioe.
