It would bo lo mo a mailer of l great anxiety that my Exccutivo Council i should bo composed of the best men in tho country ; they would always bo treated by me with frankness aud cordiality I am asked what aro my opinions on tho subject of Separation? Although this is not a provincial question, I ftm not unprepared lo express my opinion * upon it, r t Gentlemen, I assure you I vciy much v dislike tho sound of the word, and should * regard the separation of the two islands with tho greatest regret. j I shall, however, bo willing lo lislen^to and respect tho rational opinions of mon of all parties, rcsorving my final judgment until every, pains has been taken lo exhaust the question.
