News arrived in Wangnnui on Thursday last to the efi'ect that a skirmish had taken place in the- neighborhood of Patea, between the natives nnd the military, and that on our side « the loss was two privates killed, and Lieutenant Keogh, 14th llegimont,' dangerously wounded. Several Maories were killed. ' '.' ( On Sunday an orderly arrived- in Wanganui, bringing intelligonqo to the effect that another skirmish with the natives had taken place close to 'tho Wbreroa pa, and that on our side three soldiers had been killed and nine wounded, .while the enemy Jost a good umber, and several prisoners were taken. The prisoners were being' marched into the town of Wanganui under a military escort. ' ' l On Thursday a number of the Native Contingent left Wanganui for the purpose oi" looking out for tho robol natives' at Wercroa. , . General Chute and Dr Fcathcrston were at. the front with tho military, the latter having accompanied the Native Contingent.
