The following is the result of the enquiry into the lnte collision in Hobson's liny, on account of which has already appeared in a former issue of this paper: — "Of tlio recent collision between tho City of Liuuceston and the Pcnoln," tho Argus says :—": — " Tho ate collision between tho steamships Penola and City of Launceston, formed the subject of an investigation before the Victoria Steam Navigation Hoard yesterday. Tho captain of the lirst-incntioned vessel stated that he made every exertion to avoid the collision, by putting his helm hard a port, and reversing the engines, when tho vessels came near to each other ; and the master of ths City of Launceston baid that, though ho saw tbe othor steamer when at a distance of two miles, he novor altered his courso in the leas', believing, until it was too late to shift tho helm, that no danger was to be apprehended. Eleven witnoasea were examined altogether — eight for the Penola, and three for the City of Launceston. The decisiou of the Board is that the City of Luuncestou was solely to blamo for the collision." In reference to the City of Launccstou, tho Age, of tho fith December, says : — "Tho successful tenderers (Messrs O'Neil and Co.) for tlio raising of the steamship City of Launceston, have so far commenced operations as to have engaged tho hulks Janet, Eleutlieria, Clara Rymes, and another. They are to be sent down to tho wreck about Thursday next. Messrs O'Neil and Co., who have undertaken the lifting of the vessel for L3OOO, express themselves sanguine of success. The hulk Janet was, on Tuesday last, taken up the river to receive an overhaul iv Gibbon's dock, preparatory to going down to assist in raising the City of Lauuceston."
