Extbaoiidinary Fkat at Sea.— A remarkable exploit, exhibiting daring and presence of mind of no ordinary character, was performed recently on board tho ship Mindanao, homeward bound, from Inquiquo to this port. It appears that when tho ship was to tho south and eastward of Capo Horn, sho sprang a leak, and made to the extent pf six indies of water in an hour. Tho vessel was placed in considerable dangor, and it was only by constant pumping that tho leak could bo kept down. After tho pumping hud boon continued for about six weeks, tho vessel being then about two degrees north of tho equator, it was considered deßirablo to ascortain, if possible, tho position of tho leak. With this object, Mr William Howitt, tho chief officer, volunteered to go overboard and exaniino the vessel. Having dived into tho sea, ho looked along the hull of tho ship, and ultimately found that a water bolt on tho starboard side of tho upper rudder band had worked out, and this caused tho leak.
