A very fair business has been transacted during the week . The market for brcadstuffs has been particularly animated. Tho Forres, from Valparaiso, has dropped in, and her cargo of 130 tons of flour and 7000 bushels of wheat has changed hands at £22 for tho former and 10s 2d for tho lattor. Speculators havo cleared tho market of Adelaide flour at from L 24 10s to L 25 per ton, and holdois now nt.k oxtrcmo figures. Tho artiolo cannot bo purchased undor L2o' 10s, and sales havo been effected at L 27. Retail bread is Is Id tho 4 lb loaf, and bcof is fromßd tolOdtholb.

Tho Forres' dates aro to tho 27th of July. Tho only vessel sho reports as coming to the colonies is the Pioneer, loading flour for Dunedin.

The rice markot is also firm ; trado sales havo beon effected for fino Pntna at L 25 10s. Most articles in demand for Now Zealand sliiiunent rulo high. Bacon and bams aro not quitted be* low Is sd. Gandlos, Bolinont's and Hall's, are quoted at OJ to 9j|, at which figuro a largo busi ness has been dono. Both Honnessy's and Martell's brandy, in-quarters, havo been in roquest at 7s, but even higher rates aro required. In gcnoral sugars an advance of from 30s to 40s per ton "lias been established.

There is a steady influx of pnssongors from tho mining districts bound to Hokitikn, Tho steamers fill upicadily, though sailing vessels do not. Coasters under 150 tons, and drawing less than 7 feet, readily obtain cargo charters at from L 6 to 1/7 per ton.
