Intense Police Search Has Been Unsuccessful So Far
LONDON, Dec. 26 (Reed. 12.50 am). —lntense police activity continued throughout Britain today in the search for the Coronation Stone, stolen from Westminster Abbey early yesterday. All forces are watching for a man and a woman in a car seen by a policeman near the Abbey during Sunday night. They are believed to be Scottish "patriots intent on returning the stone to what they consider its “rightful home.’’ On the road north the police are operating special roadblocks and patrolling in wireless cars. It is believed, however, that the theft was very carefully planned, and that the thieves probably had a place prepared for prompt concealment of the stone. Some authorities believe that it may be buried until the hue and cry has died down. „ | One of the legs of the Coronation Chair was damaged by the thieves as
they tore the stone from beneath it. The stone was then dragged to the poets’ entrance of the Abbey, where a car was waiting.—Reuter.
