Expected Twins But Bore Triplets
AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA). —Triplets, all boys, were born at Cornwall Hospital early on Sunday morning. They are the first children of Constable and Mrs. A. Tolich, of 32 Church Street, Devo'nport. “We were married on Guy Fawkes’ Day last year,” said the constable. “I never expected fireworks like this.” The boys are all in a satisfactory condition and their weight is a little under five pounds each. There were some fears for the first born, who was christened Peter on Sunday morning, but yesterday he was improving steadily. His brothers will be called Michael and ©avid. Their second names will be the Christian names of the three doctors who attended Mrs. Tolich. Mrs. Tolich is 20 years old and proved her good health by eating the full hospital Christmas dinner from roast duck to soft drinks. Interviewed today, Constable Tolich was jubilant.” We were expecting twins,” he said, “but the third boy w’as a complete surprise. My wife was thrilled. I was just amazed. She has been seven weeks at Cornwall and they have looked after her very well.” The sudden increase iff his family has brought problems for the father. At present he and his wife have one room, IGft. by 15ft. at the home of Mrs. Tolich’s parents. A house or flat will be the boys’ first requirement. Constable Tolich has applied for a State house, but has had no word of one yet. “I ordered a pram for twins,” he said, “and now I shall have to find an extra wide one for triplets.” At present the babies live in oxygen tents at a constant temperature of 75 degrees. They are the fourth set born at Cornwall in the past two years.
