GENERAL NEWS
Better Weather. After two days of almost continuous rain, there was an improvement in the weather in the Wanganui district yesterdy and many people were attracted outdoors. Sports fixtures were able to proceed according to plan. There was considerable warmth in the sun when it appeared in the afternoon and many bathers were attracted to the beaches. Chook, Chook. At least one chook in Wanganui owes its life to an overworked housewife. Came Saturday jnorning and hubby was preparing to murder the fatted fowl. His wife, however, told him that there was already enough lamb and duck in the house to last over Christmas and New Year, too. So the chook’s life was spared. Came Saturday afternoon. Hubby arrived home with two plucked fowls under his arm —llls winnings from a raffle. They were consigned to the neighbours. Fresh Supplies. The opening of city shops this morning after a four-day holiday will be welcomed by housewives, especially for the opportunity of securing supplies of fresh meat and vegetables. Next week-end there will be a similar break in shopping but most housewives will be able to profit by the lessons learned during the past weekend. The stocking up for such a period requires considerable judgment in order to provide for unpected guests and to eliminate unnecessary waste.
