HOBGOBLIN SPRINGS TWO-SCORE SURPRISE TO WIN DUNEDIN CUP
DUNEDIN, Last Night (PA).—The track was fast and the weather fine for the opening day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's Cup meeting at Wingatui today. Considering the transport difficulties the attendance was surprisingly good and although the gate receipts showed a drop on those of last year the totalisator handled £69,936 10s (including £5993 on the doubles machine), compared with £65,496. The successful doubles combination, Social News and Hobgoblin, returned £660 8s for £l. For failing to weigh in after the Berwick Handicap, D. J. Thistoll, the rider of Travesty,, who finished fourth, was fined £2. Results:
