SYDNEY, Dec. 24 (Rec. 6 pm). —Fifty people who spent up to eight hours in the cells aS the result of pre-Christmas celebrations received an unexpected Christmas box when they appeared before the magistrate, Mr. J. J. Loomes. Instead of imposing tines, the magistrate wished them a merry Christmas and a happy New Year and discharged them. One of the seven women charged wanted to give three cheers and the others began to sing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” They had to be silenced as the court had not risen. Afterwards a spokesman for the 50 asked the court constable to convey their appreciation to the magistrate.
