LABOUR SHORTAGE ON AUCKLAND WHARVES EXPECTED SOON

AUCKLAND, Last Night (PA).— The Auckland waterfront will be drastically short of labour for a fortnight from next Wednesday. Hundreds of wharf workers are going on holiday, and 600 or more casual workers will be needed if the crowded port is to operate fully. Men must bo available next week to unload two fruit boats. If there is delay the fruit might be lost to the market. There are big cargoes of frozen meat to be loaded for the United Kingdom also. “We get this shortage every Christmas, but it looks as if it is going to be worse than usual,” said a waterfront official today.
